Part of the Bishop’s Mission Plan is Next Step #8:  “Unleash Lay Leadership In Ministry: Laity will be coached and mentored so they increasingly demonstrate passion, boldness, and excellence in faith sharing, servant ministry, stewardship, and using their spiritual gifts.”

The Center for Vitality is hosting Leadership Unleashed conversations with laity interesting in making new disciples and leading new ministries in the midst of a changing world.  All laity, particularly those in local church leadership roles, are invited to register and attend.

These gatherings provide an arena for laity to share in meaningful discussion by:
  • encouraging congregations as they seek to “grow by one” in worship, small groups, missional outreach, and professions of faith
  • sharing stories of fruitfulness
  • harvesting learning from the work of ministry in our congregations
  • discussing action plans
  • praying for each other’s mission field ministries.

Leadership Unleashed Components

LU Conversation Gatherings

These gatherings, facilitated throughout each district, provide an arena for laity to share in meaningful discussion by:

  • encouraging congregations as they seek to “grow by one” in worship, small groups, missional outreach, and professions of faith
  • sharing stories of fruitfulness
  • harvesting learning from the work of ministry in our congregations
  • discussing action plans
  • praying for each other’s mission field ministries

LU Lay Leadership Cohorts

Peer groups or cohorts of lay leaders will join together as communities of practice, using the Love/Learn/Lead model.

The cohorts of leaders will last about nine months and the process will include:

  • LOVE: Spiritual Formation as a cohort of leaders who are disciples making disciples of Jesus
  • LEARN: Equipping Elements
    • Being Unleashed — the task of lay leadership — spiritual, strategic, and fiduciary
    • Understanding your mission field
    • Peer learning from one another’s experiences
    • Grow By One and Vital! Discipleship
      • Evangelism, Hospitality, and Faith Sharing
      • Intentional & Accountable Discipleship
      • Outreach (contextual ministries and 200K reasons)
      • Worship (particularly fresh new expressions of worship)
  • LEAD: Ministries with impact
    • Leaders will create ministry action plans and continually report on and update plans with the cohort.
    • Cohort leaders will hold one another accountable for their ministry planning and implementation.

Strategic Leader Development

The ARUMC must be investing in strong lay leadership who have the capacity to impact the larger conference ecosystem in ways that advance our Trajectory.   By identifying and investing in strong, Christ-centered laity (such as through coaching training, equipping, and invitations to national gatherings), the conference & Center for Vitality will be able to increase the capacity pool of laity, and utilize these leaders to impact the greater community and world.

"Creating vital congregations that make disciples of Jesus Christ, who make disciples equipped to transform lives, communities and the world."
